Frequently asked questions

How does Guess the Commander work?

Each round shows a blurred portrait and a first clue. Answer at once for 4 points, or reveal a sharper portrait and another clue for fewer points. A wrong answer costs 1 point, but the game total never drops below 0. A game has 8 rounds drawn at random from the pool of commanders.

Which commanders are in the game?

Generals, admirals and warrior kings from antiquity to World War II, including Polish commanders. The pool is larger than one game, so every game is different.

Is the game free?

Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, and you can play as often as you like. Your best score is remembered on your device.

Where do the portraits come from?

They are historical paintings, engravings and photographs that illustrate our articles, in the public domain or credited under their license. Every answer links to the commander's full story.
