Put the Battles in Order

Timeline game · 3 rounds · Free

How well do you know the timeline of war? Each round gives you five famous battles with their years hidden. Drag them into order, from the oldest at the top to the newest at the bottom, then check. In the first round the battles fall within about six centuries, in the second within about two and a half, and in the last within only about a hundred and twenty years, so it gets harder as you go. After every round you see the real dates and links to every story.

Frequently asked questions

How does scoring work?

Each round has five battles and you score one point for every battle in the right order relative to the others (the longest chain of cards already in chronological order), so a game is worth 15 points and one card dragged to the wrong end costs only one point. The hint shows the year of one battle and costs one point in that round.

Where do the years come from?

From Wikidata, cross-checked with our battle articles. Battles in the same round are always at least three years apart, so there are no ties.

Why does it get harder?

The five battles of the first round fall within about 600 years, those of the second within about 250 and those of the last within about 120, so the eras alone no longer give the answer.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. Drag a card with your finger, or tap the arrows on the right to move it up or down.
